What I Did At Lunch Today
I decided to swing from a chandelier today. Tomorrow, maybe I will.
A friend told me the other day I should try to do something out of the ordinary, no matter how small or insignificant, in an effort to break through the monotony of the daily existence.
While sitting in a church listening to some music--it was a trio, a cellist, a violinist, and a pianist--I looked up and saw six beautiful chandeliers that hung from the ceiling and lit the sanctuary. And, in my mind’s eye, I saw myself leaping to the nearest and swinging to the next and the next, until I reached the end.
But, what then? I’d either have to let go and fall thirty feet to the ground, landing with a thud on the church’s altar. Or I could hang from that last chandelier, hoping for rescue as my hands grew tired and began to slip, and my shoulders started to ache and quiver.
I decided to swing from a chandelier today. Maybe tomorrow.
